Green Anaconda
Sam
is a green anaconda, which is the largest of all
snakes. The longest one ever recorded was in Colombia
in 1994 measuring 37 ½ feet. Travelers
have made references to 140-foot anacondas, but
they were never confirmed. The anaconda usually
stays submerged in the water waiting for prey
and can hold its breath for 10 minutes, but will
occasionally climb into a tree on a riverbank
to drop in on a meal. An anaconda will go with
out eating after a big meal for weeks or even
months; one in captivity has gone with out eating
for 2 years. They also secrete a brownish musk
that is poisonous to small organisms believing
to prevent ticks and leeches from attaching themselves.
